Mylife has revolved around the written word since my first memories. And now, after all this time as a professional writer and editor, I still pinch myself some days because I actually get paid to do this thing I love. But this doesn’t mean I find writing a bio easy: I’m never sure what to include.
Over the years, I’ve written for dozens of outlets, from small print magazines to top websites like NBC Universal. I’m the author of five books (so far!), including four published by Simon & Shuster and one self-published novel—and I’ve ghostwritten dozens more.
One of them made the Sunshine State recommended reading list for grade-school kids throughout the state of Florida, selling more than 100,000 copies. Another was a textbook for dental assistants published by Lippincot, Williams & Wilkins. One of my strangest and proudest resume credits is a pair of articles I ghosted that were accepted in the journal Interventional Cardiology (this was truly hard).
I’ve also edited hundreds of books, including everything from Chicken Soup for the Soul titles to academic history for Oxford University Press. For a decade, I ran an editing and self-publishing company called Editing for Authors that published hundreds of titles for some really great authors. I once had a blog on growing tomatoes in the subtropics that was probably the biggest blog in the world on this weird little topic—the Tribune newspapers liked it so much, they republished and linked to all my entries as they came out.
Oh yeah, and in my day job, I run the largest website in the world devoted to pet health for a Fortune 500 company.
See what I mean? My resume is a mess. But I’m a working writer, and that means saying yes to a lot of things and seeing what happens. I’m glad you stopped by—check out my gardening books, follow me on my socials, and always remember: for a surprising number of things, success is all in the wrist.
